SurgeMed Mammology Department
Welcome to the Mammology Department of the SurgeMed multidisciplinary clinic. We provide reliable, modern and sensitive care for women of all ages – from adolescence through menopause and beyond – as well as for men with breast conditions.
Our main goal is the early detection of pathologies, an individual approach to treatment and the application of modern international standards of onco-mammology (NCCN / ESMO). We accompany each patient at every stage: from a routine preventive check-up to complex oncological, reconstructive and plastic surgery.
We offer:
Our mammologists at the clinic departments in Urgench and Tashkent will carry out breast diagnostics and help in the treatment of various diseases, including plastic and onco-surgery.
When to see a mammologist
A gynecologist or general practitioner often refers patients to a mammologist, but you can also book an appointment on your own when any concerning symptoms appear. A preventive visit is recommended for all women over 40 (or earlier in case of hereditary predisposition).
The following symptoms or conditions may be a reason to visit a mammologist:
- Lumps, nodules or changes in tissue density detected during self-examination.
- Breast pain not related to the cycle, or its intensification.
- Nipple discharge (clear, bloody or purulent).
- Nipple discharge;
- Changes in the shape, size or symmetry of the breasts.
- Changes in the skin: retraction, “peau d’orange”, redness, ulceration.
- Enlargement or tenderness of lymph nodes in the armpit or supraclavicular area.
Treatment of breast diseases
The condition of and changes in the breast tissue are directly related to the woman’s reproductive function, and their health is influenced by the condition and diseases of the reproductive organs and the endocrine system. Therefore, to normalize their function, a comprehensive approach covering all aspects of the female body functioning is required.
Our mammologists and onco-surgeons at the clinic in Urgench successfully manage patients with the following pathologies:
Benign conditions:
- Fibrocystic mastopathy (nodular and diffuse).
- Fibroadenomas and breast cysts.
- Intraductal papillomas.
- Mastitis and inflammatory processes.
Oncological diseases:
- Breast cancer (all stages, including early detection).
- Paget’s disease and other rare forms of neoplasms.
Aesthetic and congenital pathologies:
-
- Congenital and acquired deformities of the breasts.
- Pronounced breast asymmetry.
- Gynecomastia in men.
Diagnosis of breast diseases
A consultation with a mammologist traditionally begins with taking the medical history. He questions the patient, finds out her concerns and determines the factors predisposing to pathology. To obtain an initial picture of the breast tissue condition, an ultrasound examination and breast examination with palpation are sufficient. If the clinical picture requires an in-depth examination, radiodiagnostics – mammography – is prescribed.
Diagnostics at SurgeMed is built on the «from simple to complex» principle. We use expert-class equipment to exclude overdiagnosis and accurately determine the tactics.
- Clinical examination and palpation: detailed history taking and risk factor assessment.
- Breast ultrasound: expert-class digital equipment with color Doppler mapping (for women under 40 or as an additional method).
- Digital mammography: the “gold standard” of screening for women over 40.
- Ultrasound-guided biopsy: fine-needle aspiration (FNA) or core needle biopsy to obtain material with minimal discomfort.
- Laboratory diagnostics: tumor markers, hormonal profile.
- Immunohistochemical (IHC) examination: for oncology patients, we always determine the status of ER, PR, HER2/neu receptors and the Ki-67 index. This is critically important for choosing personalized targeted or hormonal therapy.
Prevention of breast diseases
Unfortunately, too many everyday factors lead to the development of benign and malignant breast pathologies, which, even if she wants to, a woman cannot prevent.
Risk factors for breast diseases
- The patient’s age;
- Reproductive status, menopausal phase;
- Menstrual cycle disorders;
- Hormonal imbalances;
- Abortions and artificial termination of pregnancy;
- UV radiation;
- The presence of diabetes mellitus.
Therefore, the best advice for the prevention of breast health problems is self-monitoring and self-examination, regular follow-up with a gynecologist, consulting a mammologist when necessary and following the doctor’s recommendations.

Lactational
amenorrhea
This is a clever evolutionary mechanism that allows a woman to fully breastfeed her baby for at least six months (which is how long menstruation is most often absent after childbirth) and to restore strength for the next pregnancy.
But to maintain this mechanism, the baby needs to be put to the breast every three hours without a break at night. Feeding stimulates the brain center responsible for suppressing ovulation.
